Andrew Sendor Artist Talk – New York Academy of Art

Born in 1977, Andrew Sendor currently lives and works in New York City. Sendor’s work is characterized by a meticulous draftsmanship that serves to illuminate his ongoing engagement with the interrelation of photorealism and invented narrative structures. The artist introduces us to fictional characters in storylines whose genesis derives from a unique creative process: Sendor scripts, produces, directs, and documents performances recounting the life and times of his eccentric cast. These performances ultimately become the basis for Sendor’s paintings, drawings, and films.

He has presented solo gallery exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, and Copenhagen. Recently, a solo exhibition of his work was presented at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at MSU (2015-16). In November, 2018 Sendor will debut a new body of work in Beijing, China at BANG (Beijing Art Now Gallery). Articles about Sendor’s work have appeared in publications such as: Art in America, Art + Auction Magazine, Harper’s, Huffington Post, Modern Painters, the New York Times, Whitewall Magazine, among others. His works have been included in numerous museum exhibitions, including the Funen Art Museum, Odense, Denmark; Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill, NY; Knoxville Museum of Art, Knoxville, TN; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO; and the ARKEN Museum of Art, Ishøj, Denmark. His works are in private and public collections worldwide, including The Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum, MSU, Hall Art Foundation, and The Morgan Library & Museum, New York.
