Anthony Davis scores season-high 48 points vs. Mavericks

Anthony Davis is a special player. So much so that he has become the focal point of a renewed discussion on tampering in the NBA.

Friday night the 25-year-old superstar put the noise to the side and put all his talent on display as he dropped a season-high 48 points – including the game-winning three-point play in the final minute – and grabbed 17 rebounds in leading the New Orleans Pelicans to a 114-112 victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

Davis’ effort helped best a career-high, 34-point performance by Mavericks star rookie Luka Doncic.

“We know we’re a better team than our record shows, but we gotta go out and prove it,” Davis said on the Pelicans’ postgame broadcast. “Tonight we showed we can go out there and compete … play with anybody.”

While the NBA world’s focus – particularly that of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James – has been on where Davis is going next, the Pelicans big man has publicly remained focused on his team. The 2020 free agent is once again an MVP candidate, entering Friday averaging 28.1 points, a career-high 12.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists, plus 2.7 blocks per contest.

The Pelicans moved to 16-20 with the victory.
