Doug Baldwin’s career could be in jeopardy

Seattle Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin may have played his last down in the NFL.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider confirmed an ESPN report Friday that Baldwin was weighing retirement in the face of injuries.

“We know Doug is going to have a hard time,” Schneider said. “There is a process we need to go through with Doug.”

Baldwin underwent surgery on his groin and on his shoulder this offseason.

On Friday, the Seahawks used the last pick of the second round on Ole Miss receiver D.K. Metcalf.

Baldwin, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has been quarterback Russell Wilson’s most reliable and trusted target. In eight seasons, he has caught 493 passes for 6,563 yards and 49 touchdowns. Baldwin’s production has dipped over the past couple of seasons, but he had been battling numerous injuries.

Baldwin has excelled in the slot, and if he is indeed forced to retire, it may prompt receiver Tyler Lockett – whom the Seahawks move all over the field – to move inside permanently.
