Man bites dog at Whole Foods in Colorado, police say

A Colorado man and his dog caused a ruckus at a Whole Foods grocery store on Monday.

The man bit his pit bull mix on the ear, Boulder Police told the Daily Camera, and dragged it through the store by the collar.

Witnesses told police the man pulled the dog so roughly the collar came off, though police spokesperson Shannon Aulabaugh told the newspaper the collar may have been loose.

When police arrived on the scene, the man allegedly drew a knife, the Daily Camera reported. He dropped it when an officer pulled out a taser.

Police detained Chad Rick Naranjo, 49, on concealed weapons charges, KMGH-TV reported. The offense is a misdemeanor under state law.

The dog is currently at a local animal shelter, according to the Humane Society of Boulder County.

Animal abuse under Colorado law includes mistreating or unnecessarily beating an animal. If authorities press animal abuse charges, Naranjo may face a $500 minimum fine.
