Miley Cyrus’ husband Liam Hemsworth files for divorce: reports

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are headed for divorce.

Entertainment Tonight and People magazine report the Australian actor filed for divorce from his pop star wife days after announcing their split earlier this month.

Hemsworth is calling it quits less than a year into their marriage, after the couple tied the knot in December.

Hemsworth’s lawyer and representatives for Cyrus and Hemsworth did not immediately return USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Cyrus, 26, and Hemsworth, 29, met in 2009 while filming an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song” and announced their engagement in 2012. She began wearing her engagement ring again in early 2016, and the couple married in Tennessee at the end of last year.

A representative for the singer told The Associated Press on Aug. 10 that the pair decided a break was best while they focus on “themselves and careers,” but will remain “dedicated parents to all of their animals they share.”

Hemsworth broke his silence on the split on Instagram, confirming their breakup and wishing Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

The “Hunger Games” star noted that their separation is “a private matter” that he won’t address with “any journalists or media outlets.”
