Pride Google doodle getting lots of love on the internet

In celebration of 50 years of LGBTQ Pride, Google replaced its search page logo with its newest “doodle” on Tuesday.

The doodle is a timeline style slideshow depicting LGBTQ+ history from 1969 on.Google also created “Pride Forever: Celebrating the past, present, and future of the LGBTQ+ community” to tell the history of Pride and how it’s celebrated today.

Google periodically creates new images and graphics, dubbed “doodles,” to mark special events and anniversaries on its search page.

The Pride doodle also appeared on the same day an interactive, digital monument “Stonewall Forever” was launched by New York’s LGBT Community Center, with the help of Google.

After the New York City police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a club in Greenwich Village, in the early hours of June 28, 1969, a riot broke out.

Bar patrons and neighborhood citizens were enraged by the raid and six days of violent protests followed, marking the beginning of the gay rights movement.

One year later, in 1970, came the first LGBT pride marches.

On Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, social media users are piping up with their support for the doodle and for the monument.

Gwendolyn Metcalfe posted the doodle on Facebook. She wrote that it gave her “chills in the best way.”

On Twitter and Instagram too, users have been shouting out their doodle support.

While the vast majority of responses to the Google doodle celebrating Pride have been positive, some point out the lack of a doodle for Eid al-Fitr (June 3-June 4), which marks the end of Ramadan.

Yahoo, on the other hand, is celebrating the end of Ramadan with its own doodle.
