While people in Florida are worried about Hurricane Dorian’s impending wrath, residents and visitors of the western Bahamas are facing it now.

Hurricane Dorian strengthened to a “catastrophic” Category 5 storm Sunday morning as it made its way toward the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama Island in the western Bahamas.

As of 2 p.m., the storm was located over Great Abaco Island and traveling west at 7 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

“On this track, the core of extremely dangerous Hurricane Dorian will continue to pound Great Abaco today and the move near or over Grand Bahama Island tonight and Monday,” the hurricane center said. The storm is expected to move closer to Florida Monday into Tuesday.
